A Moderne Burger Date

Juicy burgers, crispy fries, and cherry cokes. What more could you want on a date? 😉

Mike and I have been going to Moderne Burger for almost ten years now. Moderne Burger wasn’t our first date place, but we went a lot back when we just started dating. It’s a little mom and pop burger joint in Vancouver that serves burgers, fries, fountain sodas, and shakes. The owner looks like he hasn’t aged a day and the tiny shoppe (yes, shoppe with an e) is retro and nostalgic and perfect for a cute lil date where you hold hands under the table, share a soda, and steal each other’s fries.

We always think we can finish of a burger each, plus fries, but I usually end up leaving a third of my burger on my plate. Sometimes Mike’ll finish it off, sometimes not. Inevitably, we end up in burger comas, pretty much useless for the rest of the day.

The fries, like all fresh cut fries, leave something to be desired (frozen fries all the way!), but that doesn’t stop us from dropping in every now and again because the burgers are really good and the decor is a dream.

The walls are a pale minty teal green – rumor has it that the owner had it repainted at least four times before he was happy with the color. When we go, I feel like we’re in an Archie comic, which leads to deep conversations about who we would be in the Archie universe. Mike always says Jughead, which is pretty fitting, considering his love of burgers. When I was a kid I thought that Jughead was kinda sorta dumb, but apparently he’s actually super intelligent? I totally didn’t believe Mike’s claims so I did a wiki search and turns out Jughead is some sort of genius artist type…

Mike said he thought of me as Melody, which is both cute and irritating because Melody never really knows what’s going on. But, she has kitty cat ears, so she has that going for her. 🙂

PS – Mike wants to add: Seems like a no win question – would you rather be plain ordinary Betty, rich bitch Veronica, or highly unattractive Ethel?

PPS – Fine…I LOVE being Melody. 🙂

Love Moderne Burger and their shakes!

Also, am I the only one that identified with Reg as a kid?
